Everyone’s Thinking About Camp

It’s inevitable. It’s April. Camp is 2 months away! Some are counting down the days, some are wondering what it’s going to be like, some are planning their outfits for the bus and some can’t wait to see what’s new. It’s not here yet, but camp is definitely on everyone’s mind.

If you’re excited, you’re not alone.

If you’re a little worried, you’re not alone.

If you’re wondering, you’re not alone.

If you’re imagining, you’re not alone.

That’s what makes camp epic. You spend so much time thinking about it before you get there, but you never really know what’s going to be until you’re in it, living it and loving it.

So what are you thinking?

First-time camper:
I can’t believe I’m going to camp SO soon. Who am I going to sit with on the bus? Because I don’t want to share my candy with just anybody. I really love my unit colour. I looked at the cheat sheet with my mom to figure it out. We’re definitely going to the dollar store, so I have the best costume for the first night! I’m pretty sure I want a top bunk. It’s going to be so fun to climb up there and sleep every night. My mom is going to email camp to make sure I get it. We’ve been looking on the website at all the activities. I’m most excited to try trapeze (and a little scared too!) and I can’t wait to go to A&C with my cabin. If it’s really hot like last summer, I’m really excited to hang out at swim and do fun water activities to cool off. My sister and brother really love camp, and I can’t wait to love it too, just like them!

Returning camper:
I literally check my countdown app every day!!! I’m also checking Insta all the time to see who the unit heads will be this year. I just saw the other day on stories that the spring staff are at camp. I’m so jealous! I wish I was there too, walking to main camp, eating in the dining hall, hanging with my friends. I keep imagining getting to camp, jumping off the bus and finally seeing who my counsellors are. It’s always the best going into your cabin for the first time and knowing that’s going to be home for 2 months! It’s going to be a bit weird not having my phone, but my parents PROMISED to bring it for me on Visitor’s Day. And there are so many new, cool things at camp in 2026 – the deck on the dining hall, Wing, Mega SUP – and I’m sure Chef Adam will try to top the Bagel World bagels, juice machines and cereal bar we had last year. OMG! Can it be June 25 already????????

Parent:
Every time I go into the basement, the duffels are staring at me! How are we already thinking about packing for camp and worrying that it will all fit into 2 duffels? There has been a lot of talk in our house about what we need for camp this summer. We’ve got the WAHA merch taken care of (love the new styles!). And now it’s everything else. Besides the logistics, there’s all the other parent stuff on my mind. The counsellors. The cabin. The phone thing. Hard days. The food. Bunk notes. I guess just the normal stuff when you’re sending your kid to camp for the summer and wanting them to thrive. We’ve been having really great conversations about what they’re excited and nervous about – and what they can figure out on their own and when to ask for help. They’ve had such positive experiences at Wahanowin. I have no doubt Summer 2026 will be another one.

Staff:
Exams are almost done! And then I go into full on camp mode!!! This summer is going to be amazing. So many of my friends are going back, but there are also so many new people coming. I just really can’t wait to get back. It’s my favourite place on earth, with my favourite people. I can’t wait to meet my kids and give them the same positive experience I had when I was a camper. I literally always had THE BEST staff – and that’s what I want to be for my campers. The countdown is officially on!!!

Leadership Team:
The spring staff have arrived!! All the work we’ve been doing since last summer is being put in motion. The site is coming alive again – the trapeze is set up, training is happening. Summer 2026 is already in full swing! Being back at camp is always the best. Couchiching is sparkling. The trees are blooming. Everything is coming alive, and you can feel the energy of what’s to come. Our Head Staff team will get together in May (watch social for the reveals). They are so excited about Summer 2026 and are full of ideas on how to make every day, every program and every moment epic. We can’t wait for our camp community to come home, be together and make 2026 the best summer ever!

No matter how you’re thinking about camp right now, you’re not alone. That’s what makes it so special. The best part? June 25 is right around the corner, and WAHA 2026 is about to become real – real moments, shared together.
