Lead, Inspire, Grow
Being a counsellor at camp is the best job ever. You get to spend your summer in nature, by the lake, bonding with a group of kids and being one of the reasons they love camp. As a counsellor, you play an important role in creating a safe, fun and engaging environment for campers. The positive impact you can make on campers is everlasting. Be the favourite counsellor and role model they never forget.
What makes a great counsellor at Wahanowin? Definitely a genuine love for camp and working with kids. Enthusiasm, leadership, teamwork, empathy, flexibility, creativity and spirit are also important. While helping kids discover and grow into their potential, you’ll also grow into yours.

We ask all prospective staff to let us know their ideal age group and we take that into account when placing staff for the summer.
-
How do I apply?
We have an application for new staff and returning staff here. Once you fill out the application and it is accepted, we will contact you for an interview.
-
When do I get paid?
You will be paid at the end of your contract, however, there will be one or two opportunities throughout the season to get “half-way” pay.
-
Do I have to live in a cabin with campers?
As a counsellor, your role is to spend the summer building healthy relationships with your campers, act as a role model for them and facilitate positive experiences at camp. Living with campers in their cabins and being a consistent presence in their day-to-day life at camp is critical to building trust and making sure campers know they always have someone to rely on at any time during the day.
-
Can I have visitors at camp?
Outside visitors are not permitted at camp for either staff or campers, including on your day off, Visitors Day (unless you have a sibling that is a camper at camp), during free time or after camper bedtime. Visitors at camp disrupt the daily routine and can be distracting for staff and campers alike.
