If You Know, You Know

If you know, you know: the little things that make WAHA, WAHA

Every camp has its traditions. But there are certain things at WAHA that go beyond traditions – experiences, moments and rituals you live, feel, and that bring camp to life.

They are part of the quirky, wondrous, joyful rhythm of camp. They bring people together. They create energy. They’re the everyday reminders that you’re exactly where you’re meant to be. At home. At WAHA.

If you know, you know.

  • Swaying with your entire camp family ‘To the Hills’ during Shabbat Services in the Phyllis Weisfeld Theatre.
  • Grooving to Bob Marley at Sunday Brunch and looking forward to an amazing Sunday Funday.
  • Hearing those first few bars of the Survivor theme song and wondering if it’s a fake out or the real deal.
  • Waiting for the last second of the Hamotzi before gunning it to the hot chocolate station, juice machine, salad bar…
  • Enjoying pineapple that comes off the Q on Beach Day cooked by your favourite ski staff.
  • Watching the Wahanopush and waiting for that first foot out of the circle and the explosion of cheers from the entire camp.
  • Hearing “Countdown is in 10, 9, 8” coming from flagpole…start sprinting, you don’t want to be late!
  • Passing a slippery, oiled up watermelon at swim during Olympiad and hoping for enough points to win it all.
  • Walking to breakfast on Wednesday and wondering what country we’re visiting. Italy? Israel? Thailand?
  • Sitting in the theatre praying your Unit is pulled last out of the hat to get the latest sleep in after that epic Saturday night musical.
  • Hearing the announcement during Saturday family pizza lunch that it’s finally time to get the cones.
  • Waiting for the dining hall doors to open on Visitor’s Day, so you can run as fast as possible into your family’s arms.

All these experiences, moments and rituals – and so many more – are what bring WAHA to life. They’re what transform camp from somewhere you go in the summer to something you feel in your soul, something you’re part of forever and something that stays with you long after you leave the shores of Lake Couchiching.

If you know, you know.
