Once WAHA, Forever WAHA.
On June 14, we welcomed alumni back to camp for the launch of Forever WAHA, our new alumni program. It could not have been a more perfect day, in every way.
The sun was shining. Couchiching was calm. And you could see the WAHA vibe in every smile, hug, selfie and story. People were so excited to come back to camp (some hadn’t been back in more than 30 years!), see each other and see how much has changed, yet also remained the same.
Morning activities were a huge hit. People were getting back up on skis, hanging out at swim, making boondoggle bracelets and pickle balling hard on the new courts. It was amazing to see everyone reconnect with the part of themselves that thrived at camp.
Lunch was amazing! We started the meal with Hamotzi, and then everyone joined in for “W” and the Wahanowin song. Chef Adam served up an incredible meal of salads, bagels, tuna, egg, lox, veggies and fresh fruit. It was incredible to see everyone in the dining hall, together, like no time had passed. After lunch, everyone headed to tuck for some old-time favourites (popcorn and a pop!) and new treats.
We had an amazing opportunity to capture some video testimonials from alumni. When asked what it felt like when they made that left turn off Rama and drove into camp, here is what a few people had to say:
“After 36 years it felt strange to be back but great at the same time…it all looks similar but also so different and better.”
– Gary Swidler (1981-1989)
“When I come home here, it’s like a warm blanket is being wrapped around me. I am back where I grew up, in a place that is very comforting.”
– Corinne Moss (2007-2018)
“I’ve been looking forward to coming back to camp for weeks now, and it was all I could think about.”
– Sasha Cohen (2008-2019)
“When we made that left turn off Rama Road, it flooded me with the most incredible memories. As we walked from the Grove to main camp, seeing the Grad area and then Eagles and Seniors…each unit, each cabin has a thousand memories.”
– Jodi Mindel (1980-1989)

And if you are interested in a weekend at camp with your family, we still have spots available for the July 4 – 7 weekend. Email info@wahanowin.com for more information.
