Current FamiliesCOVID-19 Updates

Every summer you put your trust in us to care for your children and keep them safe. Navigating the COVID-19 pandemic is a journey that involves us all. It requires us to be on the same page, open, transparent and constantly in communication. We are all in this together. Our commitment to our families and staff is to provide frequent updates both before and during the summer. We’ll update this page with new information as it becomes available, and as always, we’re here to chat if you have any specific questions. Please feel free to reach out to our Director’s, Elijah and Tia.

Health Centre Team

Over the past year, we have been extremely fortunate for the expert and professional support from members of our Health Centre Team. During the COVID-19 pandemic, they have provided sound advice, guidance and have been instrumental in helping navigate our path towards a safe and healthy summer.

Dr. Herbert Brill, MD, MBA

Herbert joined McMaster University in 2007 in the Division of Gastroenterology & Nutrition and is currently Associate Clinical Professor of Pediatrics and Medical Lead for the Celiac Clinic and Hepatology Clinic at McMaster Children’s Hospital. He has been part of the Health Centre Team for many years and is passionate about being at camp with his 4 kids!

________

Dr. Jordan Carr, MD

For more than 20 years, Jordan has been a hospital-based pediatrician looking after both acute and chronic conditions working out of North York General and Scarborough General Hospital. As a long time Wahanowin alumni, Jordan is proud to be part of camp’s Health Centre Team and looking forward to ensuring this summer is fun and safe for everyone.

_________

Dr. Mara Cole, MD, MScCH

Mara is so excited to be back at Camp Wahanowin for her collective 17th season. Mara is an active clinician in the Department of Pediatrics at St. Joseph’s Health Centre and has a private practice in midtown Toronto. Camp has been an integral part of Mara’s life, and it is where she met her husband and has three daughters at camp!  They have made wonderful memories at camp, and can’t wait to make many more for years to come!

_________

Dr. Jordan Feld, MD, MPH

Jordan is a gastroenterologist who focuses primarily on liver disease (hepatology) at the Toronto General Hospital where he sees people with all types of liver problems.  He is also an active researcher doing both clinical trials and laboratory studies. His main research focus is on hepatitis infections (hepatitis B and C) but with a strong background in virus infections, like everyone else, he is now working on COVID-19 as well.  Jordan started his camping career at Waha and loves to get outdoors with his 3 little ones.  He is excited to be returning to Waha and  helping us develop a safe COVID-19 strategy for the summer.

_________

Dr. Karen Swirsky, MD

When Karen is not at camp, she’s catching babies at St. Michael’s Hospital in downtown Toronto or taking care of families at the family practice clinic across the street. During the COVID-19 pandemic, she has been involved in testing and vaccinating in the hospital and local shelters. She is so excited to be back at camp with her family and continuing her forever dream of being a camp doctor!
