Pete and Tan
Position: Director

General Information:
Pete started his Wahanowin career after completing his undergraduate degree at the University of Waterloo. His first season on staff was as a Ski Instructor followed by two years as the Head of Ski. In 1990 he moved away from the waterfront and was the PeeGee Unit Head. By this time, Pete had completed teacher’s college at Queen’s university and was teaching full time. He still continued to return each summer to Wahanowin. After a summer off travelling, Pete returned to camp in 1992 as the Alumni Unit Head and spent the next 7 seasons, until 1999, as the camp’s Head Counsellor. That same year was Pete’s final as a high school teacher. He joined Wahanowin as a full time Director in 2000. Tan also started her camp career at Wahanowin later than most. After completing her second year at Western in 1991, she applied to work in the camp office for the summer. One summer was all it took for the Wahanowin spirit to take hold, and after two more summers she joined the staff team full time in 1994. In addition to being the year round Office Manager, she was the Coordinator for our off season Outdoor Centre programs. During the summer of 1999, Tan was the Wahanowin Program Director and the following year became our Assistant Camp Director and Food Service Coordinator, the positions she holds today. As they continue to work year round welcoming campers and staff on the shores of Lake Couchiching, Pete and Tan have added their own campers to the Wahanowin family, with the birth of their sons Jack in 2004 and Cole the following year. They look forward to seeing their children join the many others who will learn, play and grow at Camp Wahanowin.
