Alumni Day 2012

The second weekend of the summer we hosted Alumni Day at camp. Over 200 former campers and staff came to Wahanowin to relive old memories, rekindle old friendships and reconnect with their camp experience. It was a wonderful day highlighted by great activities, a baseball tournament, a singsong and cheering in the Dining Hall as well as a special tribute to Harold Nashman. However, the greatest aspect of the day was watching everyone interact and connect like they never left. Some of the Alumni had only been away for a couple of years, while others hadn’t been at camp for a decade or two. Regardless of the time away from Wahanowin, it took only a few minutes to recapture the spirit, energy and excitement for camp. Thanks to our alumni and their families for a fantastic alumni day! We hope to see you all again soon.

Special thanks to Justin Orfus for joining the Waha TV crew as a guest host! Continue reading »

Alumni Baseball Tournament

Last week Wahanowin hosted the first annual Alumni Baseball Tournament. Former staff/campers from the 1990s and 2000s returned to the shores of Lake Couchiching for a fun filled day of friends, food, memories and of course: baseball! It was an amazing sight to see former Unit Heads, Heads of Sport, CIT Coordinators, Program Directors and Head Counselors gathered at the Wahanodome to play their favorite past time….

A big thank you to Bruce, Pete and Chair of the Alumni Committee Andrew Chris for organizing the amazing day!

Stay tuned for many more exciting alumni events to come. Continue reading »

Camp in the City

group3

With today’s technology, it has become so easy for camp friends to stay in contact all year long. Between BBM, Facebook, Twitter and video chatting, camp friends do not have to spend a whole year not seeing or speaking to one another. As great as technology is however, it has been the consistent amount of “camp chills” I have had since camp ended that has made me realize how truly special the bonds created at Wahanowin are. When I look at all of my closest friends I have today, 95% of them are people I shared summers on the Wahanowin shores with. No matter what the person’s age or current camp status is, Wahanowin has been the connecting link that has kept so many of my friendships alive.
